CSMC (Computer Science Metadata Container) is a newly invented file type designed to store raw research data alongside metadata and a viewer for easy access and visualization. The CSMC file format aims to facilitate the sharing and preservation of research data in a self-contained and user-friendly manner.
The primary goal of CSMC files is to provide a convenient and efficient way for scholars in the humanities to store, share, and access their research data. By combining the raw data, metadata, and a viewer within a single file, CSMC files offer a streamlined approach to data management and collaboration.
Key features of CSMC files include:
You can also view the CSMC Specification for more detailed information on the structure and content of CSMC files.
The CSMC Webserver is a platform that enables scholars to view and download CSMC files. It utilizes the Database on Demand approach, allowing for efficient storage and retrieval of CSMC files.
The CSMC files are uploaded to the FDR (Forschungsdatenrepositorium) of the University of Hamburg. The FDR provides buttons for viewing and downloading CSMC files:
CSMC files to be used with this webserver have to follow the CSMC Specification.
You can go to our preview page to upload a file from your computer for temporary previewing.
PreviewThis webserver provides the automatical creation of csmc files for the following projects or applications:
You can create a CSMC file for the EDAK project by providing EpiDoc files and the name of the creator of these files. The CSMC file will contain the EpiDoc files and metadata as well as a viewer for the processed EpiDoc files.
Create EDAK CSMC FileYou can create a CSMC file for the ACP project by providing json files. The CSMC file will contain a viewer for the processed files.
Create ACP CSMC FileWe also provide local applications for Windows and MacOS for viewing CSMC files directly on your local computer. After installation, you can double-click on a CSMC file to open it in the viewer application. Moreover, you can also drag and drop CSMC files onto the application icon to open them or open them from within the application.
Please note that for MacOS you have to run xattr -c [path/to/app]
once to mark the application as safe to run.
You have to replace [path/to/app]
by the path to the installed application.
